Starting out……
I have worked both in the corporate world and for myself running my own businesses. Starting in financial roles and studying for a financial qualification. As someone who loved to ‘play’ with and master software packages that led me into working as a financial software consultant, project managing some large implementations for a financial software vendor across Europe and the US. The companies I worked with included Philip Morris, Zurich Insurance, Kleinwort Benson and The British Council, to name a few. I have worked in both large blue chip companies and small 3/4 person companies, with teams of all men, mixed gender and all women. This has given me many experiences both good and bad on which I can draw to help other women!
Discovering a flair for selling………
After spending several years living out of a suitcase as a consultant, I was poached by one of the sales teams. What followed were some really enlightening (and fun) times selling to the Public Sector, and my realisation that although I was a bit of a ‘techie’ I also loved selling a product I believed in.
The Entrepreneur Life……..
After a few years off to have my children I entered the world of the entrepeneur, firstly by training as an image consultant with one of the leading Image consultancies, and working with them as an area manager developing and recruiting consultants, as well as running my own consultancy. This developed into owning my own two store retail business selling clothes and accessories, which fed one of my passions – the world of fashion and style. I am a true believer in how much appearance can effect how you are perceived and treated, and that we all can look and feel our best if someone takes the time to teach us how to love what we see in the mirror. Having dressed hundreds of women of all shapes, sizes and personalities I understand the importance of getting what is right for the individual, and never putting women into ‘safe’ boxes or categories! This was one of the most personally rewarding times of my life, working with women and helping them to feel good about themselves.
In work, out of work and back to entrepreneurship……..
When the recession hit I moved back into the software world – marketing and selling and again going back to my other love of ‘playing’ with and mastering new software and of course online services. After being made redundant twice in as many years I decided I had had enough of working hard for someone else and not being appreciated. It seemed that my perfect job just didn’t exist, so I decided to create it! I did a little networking (using LinkedIn and Twitter) and pretty quickly found myself several clients who needed online marketing, twitter, blogging and WordPress help. I set up my company Pink Buzz which helps with all areas of profile raising and marketing both on and offline. What I discovered was that I loved the freedom of working for myself and for people who really appreciated what I did for them and as an aside I re-discovered that I LOVE to write!
Today………
My true loves are working for myself, marketing, writing, playing with and mastering software and helping others raise their profile. Today this is what I spend most of my time doing. However, as a lover of style I also have a second business called “looking Stylish” - check it out if you want to look fabulous every day!
